I’m really lucky to have two stores in town that sell locally made items, and the vast majority of them are handmade. They sell a few things made by larger companies in NH, but it’s still supporting local business. All but two of my Christmas gifts this year were bought in one of those stores, and I’m really glad to be able to say that. I’m not going to go into the whole materialistic/stuff society philosophy, but just say that I haven’t shopped at Wal-Mart in…over a year.

I knew that this cool weather would not last long. It’s New Hampshire, and anyone who expected it to is foolish. I even said so to several people (not the foolishness, but that it would get hot again). I still can’t help but be disappointed that I feel like I’m breathing through a wet rag today. It’s not incredibly hot, it’s only about 80. However, it’s incredibly humid. I could feel it coming in last night when I was trying to get to sleep. Both Corey and me could feel it coming in.

I’m ready for fall. Knitting with wool is much more fun in the fall. Plus I get to wear things like this…

I’ve been helping someone create – well I’ve been creating a website for someone for the past month or more. He’s a photographer/videographer and wanted a place online where he could sell some of his photography as prints. I agreed to help, and suggested he set up a blog as well (of course!). I’m really glad he seemed excited about the idea, because I know I’ve really enjoyed blogging and the small community that surrounds it.

You may remember the little peak I gave you a while back, and asked if the colors were alright. I still have a few tweaks in the design to make, and have a lot to do for the store front. However, the blog is pretty much all set, and he’s made his first post already.

If you head on over to the photoblog you can see his first blog post, and an amazing macro image of a snowflake.

I usually avoid memes, but anyways….From Kara, I got tagged. Shuffled Winamp, to see what song plays as the background to various scenes in the movie of my life.

This should be interesting. I guess you’ll get a good sense for my musical tastes. I hope I don’t have any of Corey’s stuff in there.

Opening credits
25 Years by Pantera (oy, what a start)

First day of school
Rag Doll by Aerosmith

Falling in love
What Happened to You? by The Offspring (haha!)

Prom/Grad
Still by the Foo Fighters (ugh, how’d they get in there?)

Mental breakdown
Sons of Plunder by Disturbed (fitting!)

Flashbacks
Breach Birth by Chevelle (where’d that one come from? Corey’s buying music without telling me!)

Getting back together
Melancholy (Holy Martyr) by Iced Earth (er…I think this one’s from Cade)

Wedding scene
Friend of a Friend by the Foo Fighters (aww man)

Final battle
Rock in Roll by Ghost Machine (wha?)

Death scene
Until the End by Kittie

Funeral scene
Red Sam by Flyleaf

End credits
Everybody’s Fool by Evanescence

Finale
Am I Evil by Metallica

OK, there’s a ton of wierd stuff in there, and a bunch of stuff I’ve never even heard. However, I can be happy with the last two songs at least! So, Natalie, Beth, and Cade, show us what you’ve got! (how’s that for commas)

A social networking site for the socially conscious? Rather, I’m guessing it to be a “MySpace” for people wanting social change. Either way, the little flash vid of their manifesto is pretty cool from a design aspect.

I read the little “Learn More” link at the bottom, but it didn’t clarify things very much for me. Those “About Us” or similar links never really tell you what a website is before it’s really launched.

Have you recently ruminated on the litany of social and environmental problems facing our world and wondered, as a society, how we manage such a paralysis towards meaningful change?…

…Rethos.com is a social networking website and media portal created by and for those who refuse to stand by. Its mission is to create an online platform from which individuals, non-profit organizations and socially responsible companies can unite to realize a world that is socially just, environmentally sustainable and free of armed conflict… [Read the rest.]

I’m curious enough to submitt my e-mail and be updated of changes on the website. Honestly I just want to see what’s the point, and what exactly they will “Launch in 2007!”.

I love it!! This project is in the spirit of LibriVox, in which they take public domain content, turn it into accessible audio, and release it back to the public for free.

Musopen is a community driven, online music repository started by a music and economics college student named Aaron Dunn.

This site takes music that is in the public domain, meaning a work that belongs to the community, and has it recorded by individuals and college/community orchestras throughout the United States and stored online so it can be accessed for free through this website.

It’s stuff like this that I think the internet is for! Stuff like Wikipedia, Gutenberg, LibriVox, and now Musopen are what make the internet totally worthwhile.
