Snowed In

If you pay any attention to national news, you may have heard of the big ice storm that we got here in New England. If you haven’t heard about it, two fridays ago we had a huge ice storm that took out the majority of northeastern New England. Southern New Hampshire, lots of Massachusetts and Vermont, and I’m not sure where else. Ice covered everything, and hundreds of thousands of people were out of power. Over 300,000 were without power very early that Friday including us. We were very lucky to only lose power for about 12 hours, whereas some people are still without power. We were also very lucky to be prepared with a wood stove, gas kitchen stove, and plenty of candles. Many people weren’t so prepared, and had to stay in shelters because it has been downright cold.

Driving in the area was quite a sight too, especially in the middle of the day with the sun out. I got some pictures of the ice, but they really don’t do justice of some of the most beautiful scenes.

Fast forward to this weekend when we were prepared before Friday with a big snow storm warning. We were also told there was supposed to be a snow storm this Sunday (today). Well, it started snowing about 12:30 1:00pm on Friday and hasn’t stopped since. I was told to go home from work about 1:30 to beat the worst of it, and I’m glad I did ’cause visibility even then was shit. That’s almost 48 hours straight with fairly steady snow. I’m not talking a little snow here, and it picks up there but dies down later. We’re talking a pretty constant rate of snow all-fricken-day-long. I was supposed to work today but we won’t be opening the store.

That grass is over a foot tall. We’ve had the plow guy over once yesterday, and look at it.

That gray haze you see in these two photos is the snow. My camera doesn’t pick it up well, but you can use your imagination. That’s what we’ve been seeing out our window for almost 2 days. I was saying the other day that even with these big snow storms, with the unpredictability of New England weather there’s still no guarantee it will still be around come Christmas. Now that we have so much, I’m reconsidering that statement.

Wow! That is quite the site. I was hoping with our unseasonably cool weather that we would easily have some snow storms this year. But just as it was unseasonably cool, it suddenly became unseasonably warm and my hopes are mostly dashed at this point. This morning I’m almost sure I saw courtship behavior between some bluebirds, so I think they are just as confused as everyone else.

You got some nice pics. Maybe this winter will beat the last one?

Oy, yeah that storm was a doozy. My parents didn’t have power for 6 days. Let’s just say my mom was freaking out by the end of it.

Again… still sort of reeling for your preggers news, this what happens when I assume there are no updates because your knitting feed isn’t updated. Which I assume will be updated soon… lots of xmas progress I bet! And now baby knits! Which I can do! Wahooo!
