Our Baby Girl
June 15, 2009 - 1:43 pm UTC
I didn’t think I’d post this for a few days yet, as we’re still adjusting to things here. However, I’m feeling very mentally restless and physically tired, so I figured it best to sit at the computer rather than fuss about the house.
Introducing Katherine Mae: Born on June 12 9:45 pm, 8lb 1oz and 20″ at birth and very healthy…
We went in on Monday to be induced, and I know a lot of our friends and family have been waiting for days to learn any news. We didn’t neglect you! The hospital that we chose to deliver at takes a slow and steady approach to induction, and my body really wasn’t ready for her to come out. It took 5 days to really get things moving along. Those were some really frustrating tough and sometimes boring 5 days. Finally on Friday my body was ready, but I think due to the artificial nature of being induced it was a lot more painful than it could have been (her head came out barely molded, and she wasn’t small either! she really shot right out). I did end up going for an epidural (I wanted to try doing it without medicaton originally) but it’s a particular type of epidural that allows you to still function from the waist down. Thank God for that epidural!
I can’t believe how much there is to learn, but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be really hard not to push myself, because I feel like I have this post-natal nesting urge rather than the pre-natal that most people talk about. I’m just so happy she’s finally here, and we’re finally out of that hospital.
Oh, and I gotta say one thing about Corey. I couldn’t have done it without him.

June 15th, 2009 @ 9:51 pm UTCShe’s so beautiful! She looks like a baby and not a fetus. I’m glad you got that over with and I hope you heal up quickly and as comfortably as possible. If you’re nursing, it is probably going to be really hard and really painful for a while, but as long as your latch is good it does become a LOT easier, and after a few weeks I promise it doesn’t hurt anymore. I need to find your email address so I can give you all of my unsolicited advice. If you’re not nursing, I’ll admit I’m surprised, but anyone who thinks less of you for it should be hit by a bus.
Congratulations you two, she will turn the world on it’s head, and you will love the new view.
